Biography
Laurie took up the position of Senior Lecturer in Academic Development/ Leadership and Management (part-time) in April 2005. Prior to the appointment, he lectured part-time at University of Technology Sydney for almost two decades. His academic interest and expertise is in organisational learning and workplace change.
Since 1990, in parallel with his academic activities at both UTS and Macquarie, Laurie has conducted a consulting practice in areas relating to learning and change. This body of work, involving more than 70 projects, has encompassed:
- investigations that lead to improvement in training and development
- research directed at the nature of particular skill areas, most notably generic and employability skills
- needs assessment and program evaluation (including a number of large-scale, cross-industry studies)
- organisational review and development in areas such as communication, teamwork, remuneration, knowledge management and learning
- management development through training, mentoring and project work
- detailed reviews of organisational events, such as plant shutdowns and new systems installations, with a view to improvement
- seminars for HR practitioners in areas such as workplace investigation methods, training needs assessment and program evaluation
- investigations into / development of training and learning resources and strategies
