When you receive the questionnaires, we suggest that you fill out one of the questionnaires, rating yourself and/or your subject. On receiving your report you will then be able to compare the students' perceptions with your own, and interpret them in the light of this.
It is important to give the students feedback about their concerns, complaints or suggestions. If the evaluation is conducted at the end of a course, this may mean that you will be giving the feedback to the following group of students. It nevertheless reassures the students that their views are heard and that changes are made as a result.
Reflection sheets have been designed to assist academics when considering student feedback by allowing them to summarise any issues the students may have recorded on their questionnaires, as well as the teacher's own feelings on the class. The reflection sheets include an area where the teacher can record the action they plan to take in response to the student issues raised. Results of these sheets can be used as evidence of critical reflective practice that is necessary not only for the development of an individual's teaching but also for Performance Management activities.
When teaching staff, unit coordinators and Heads of Department receive their statistical reports containing their student feedback results, they will also receive three Reflection Sheets. These sheets are designed to assist in the consideration of student feedback and incorporate a section where the teacher/unit coordinator/Head of Department can record responses they plan to take in light of the issues raised by students.
A Reflection Sheet has been developed to enable tutors to consider the feedback they receive from students, their experience of teaching in the course and their professional development needs. Unit coordinators can use this feedback for the purpose of course unit and teaching development. The template for the Tutor Reflection Sheet can be printed from the link below.
